LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers will send nine players to the Arizona Fall League, including six former Great Lakes Loons. Five of the former Loons – reliever Steven Ames, reliever Cole St. Clair, starter Josh Wall, catcher Gorman Erickson and outfielder Kyle Russell – will play for the Salt River Rafters. Former Loon outfielder Angelo Songco will play for the Surprise Sagauros. Other Dodgers prospects in the league include pitcher Stephen Fife, infielder Jake Lemmerman and outfielder Alex Castellanos. Songco and Russell are “taxi squad” players. They can only play on Wednesdays and Saturdays unless otherwise needed.

CHATTANOOGA – Former Great Lakes Loons outfielder Kyle Russell was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week after a strong week for Double A Chattanooga. In just three games, Russell had 10 RBIs, eight runs, six doubles and four homers in 14 at-bats from May 23-25. For the week, Russell had 10 extra-base hits, 29 total bases, four homers and a slugging percentage of 1.115. Russell played for the Loons in 2009 and earned co-Most Valuable Player honors in the Midwest League with Loons teammate Dee Gordon. Not much else going on in the MLB planet today.
