Read More: Garrett Jones (RF – PIT), Ted Lilly (P – LOS), Matt Kemp (CF – LOS), James Loney (1B – LOS), Chad Billingsley (P – LOS), Ryan Ludwick (LF – PIT), Brad Lincoln (P – PIT), Kenley Jansen (P – LOS), Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates at Los Angeles Dodgers, Sep 17, 2011 7:10 PM PDT

Ted Lilly pitched seven strong innings, and was backed by a strong performance from the offense as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-1 in the third game of a four-game weekend series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers hit two home runs in the first three innings to chase former Dodger James McDonald, who lasted just three innings against his old team.

James Loney, who hit a pinch-hit three-run home run on Friday night against the Pirates, started on Saturday and did the same in his first at-bat, hitting a fastball into the right field pavilion for a 3-0 lead. Juan Rivera hit a two-run shot off McDonald in the third inning.

Lilly continued his good run of late, allowing just one run in seven innings, while striking out seven. He has not allowed more than three runs in any of his last nine starts, and since the beginning of August has a 2.59 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 56 innings.

Matt Kemp had two hits of his own, and stole second base in the sixth inning. It was the 40th stolen base of the season for Kemp, who also has 33 home runs. Kemp is the 25th player in the 128-year history of the Dodgers to have 40 steals in a season. Kemp also scored his 100th run of the season tonight, giving him the 10th season by a Los Angeles Dodger with 100 runs and 100 RBI.

Pittsburgh rallied in the eighth inning, loading the bases with one out down 6-1 against relief pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. However, Kenley Jansen came in and struck out Ryan Ludwick and Garrett Jones to end the inning, and the Bucs’ chances.

Chad Billingsley starts the series finale for the Dodgers on Sunday, facing Brad Lincoln.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 (UPI) — James Loney and Juan Rivera both homered and teamed to drive in five runs Saturday, boosting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-1 win over Pittsburgh.

The Dodgers won for the 10th time in September and moved back within a game of .500 in a bid to have at least a break-even season in what has been a year filled with distractions.

Loney hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Rivera had a two-run blast in the third to make a winner out of starter Ted Lilly.

Lilly (10-14) gave up a run on four hits over seven innings. He had won only two of his previous eight starts.

Kenley Jansen escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth to keep the Los Angeles lead safe.

James McDonald (9-9) lasted only three innings in taking the loss. He gave up five runs on seven hits.

Not much else going on in the MLB planet today.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 8, Atlanta 6

Published: Sept. 2, 2011 at 11:26 PM

ATLANTA, Sept. 2 (UPI) — James Loney and Andre Ethier had all the RBI in a five-run seventh Friday that rallied the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-6 victory over Atlanta.

Los Angeles came back from a five-run deficit to win their fifth straight.

Atlanta built its 5-0 lead with the help of an error by LA shortstop Dee Gordon in the second that made two of the runs unearned.

Juan Rivera started the comeback with a two-run single in the fourth and drove in another run with a base hit in the sixth. Los Angeles then sent 10 men to the plate in the seventh while scoring five times on five hits.

Consecutive one-out singles by Justin Sellers, Tony Gwynn and Gordon loaded the bases and Loney cleared them with a double to right. An intentional walk to Matt Kemp and an unintentional one to Rivera again filled the bases and Ethier came through with a two-out single to center that brought home two runs.

All the runs in the seventh inning were charged to reliever Arodys Vizcaino (1-1), who retired only one batter and took the loss in relief of Brandon Beachy.

Hong-Chin Kuo (1-2) worked two scoreless relief innings to get the win. Javy Guerra gave up a homer to Dan Uggla in the ninth, but still captured his 14th save.

That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow.
